Analysis of an unprecedented case in Chile: the civil liability of the Archdiocese of Santiago for sexual abuse crimes committed by a priest. The first and second instance rulings that attributed liability and ordered civil compensation, the canonical response, and the final Supreme Court decision that released the Church from civil liability are detailed. The social and legal debate opened by this precedent is discussed.
