Historical analysis of the separation between Church and State in Chile, established in the 1925 Constitution. The article describes the principal role of the Catholic Church before and after independence, the confessional nature of the nation according to the 1833 Constitution, and the development toward religious and legal freedom for other denominations, together with the public and legal recognition of the Catholic Church.
